Turning into Teens Webinar

October 5, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

1 in 4 young people will experience mental health issues and most of them will not seek help. There are many reasons why, although stigma plays a major role. Completing a Youth Mental Health First Aid course will help you to develop the skills to assist a young person who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, using a practical, evidence-based action plan.
You will learn to recognise and respond to a young person who may be experiencing common mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, problematic substance use, panic attacks, self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Less common mental health issues such as psychosis and eating disorders are also covered.
You’ll learn how to help someone to access the support they might need to manage their symptoms as part of their recovery journey, including school and community based supports.
You will also learn how to actively reduce stigma in your school community by responding appropriately to myths and misconceptions about mental illness.
Tuning in to Teens® is an evidence-based parenting program that provides parents with skills and strategies to help with everyday parenting challenges. The course teaches ‘emotion coaching’ – how to recognise, understand and respond to children’s emotions in an accepting and supportive way. The program has proven success in improving parenting, parent-child relationships, including developing skills to assist your child in problem solving and building resilience.
